The North Dakota Prescribed Fire Cooperative is hosting a Prescribed Fire Workshop on Tuesday, May 24th with a rain date scheduled for Thursday, May 26th. Interested in learning more about prescribed fire as a management tool? You are invited to register for free for this full-day workshop. Classroom style instruction and a prescribed fire demonstration are planned for the day.
Topics include federal and state programs and fire restrictions, North Dakota fire laws, fire breaks, and the importance of weather and fire behavior. Additionally, participants will learn about the benefits and uses of a prescribed fire from a landowner’s perspective. Speakers include Curtis Bradbury from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Haley Bloomquist and Luke Romance from The Nature Conservancy, Cami Dixon from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Cody Grewing from Audubon Dakota, and Karen Smith, a private landowner. Additionally, participants will learn about tools and equipment, planning, and resources available.
Participants are asked to bring their own chair and lunch; water will be provided. Participants should wear 100% cotton clothing, closed toe leather boots, leather gloves, and eye protection for the live fire demonstration.
