As spring is slowly creeping in, one might begin to consider greener pastures and the smell of fresh flowers blooming in the yard. April is here and it’s time to start planning your landscaping and ways you can bring all the birds to your yard. This year, maybe try something new! Have you considered planting native species? The National Audubon Society encourages you to add native plants to your landscaping, April is National Native Plant and National Gardening Month after all. Growing native bird-friendly plants will attract and protect backyard birds, enhance the beauty of your space, and is better for the environment. Browse our native plant database and enter your zip code to see which plants support the local birds where you live.
Not only do we encourage you to celebrate Native Plant Month and National Gardening Month, but we also hope you honor Earth Month too! But let’s not stop there. As Marshall Johnson, the National Audubon Society’s Chief Conservation Officer, best said in his 2019 TedxFargo talk, “In the face of our current environmental challenges, it’s time we make every day Earth Day”. Individuals at home can make a big difference in helping to protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow.
Already taking steps to improve your conservation green thumb? We thank you! Here are some additional opportunities to celebrate and honor our Earth.
