A commitment to education is at the heart of the Audubon tradition. By inspiring more people in more places to value and protect the natural world, we are laying the foundation for future conservation. Audubon Centers and Sanctuaries are one of the principal elements of our education work. They have inspired more than 10 generations of Americans to learn about and protect birds, other wildlife, and the natural world. Our network reaches more than a million visitors each year.
In North and South Dakota we lead a variety of nature-based programs and events focused on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats while emphasizing responsible stewardship of natural areas, both rural and urban.
We provide children, families and adults with opportunities to experience the Platte Valley ecosystem and its wildlife by utilizing our indoor and outdoor classrooms, viewing blinds and trails that meander along the Platte River, through wetlands, wooded areas and prairie remnants.
From preschool through college to seniors, there is a wide variety of education opportunities available for folks of all ages and abilities.
Sandhill Cranes are just the beginning of your Nebraska birding adventure.
Several national wildlife refuges and Sheyenne National Grassland host some of the state’s most sought-after birds.
South Dakota encompasses a wealth of birding opportunities across landscapes of surprising diversity.
In many ways every child is born a scientist—exploring their world, leading small experiments, asking questions, searching for answers. This page aims to bring together activities from across Audubon’s national network of environmental educators, including the classroom curriculum Audubon Adventures, plus related DIY activities and content from Audubon’s editors.
Help us continue our important work for Sandhill Cranes and other birds that rely on the Platte River ecosystem!
We are able to provide and protect this amazing landscape only with the help of private donations. Help us keep the trails open and the prairie thriving!
