Threatened by climate change, development, overfishing, and pollution, seabird populations around the world have decreased by 70 percent since 1950. In North America alone, shorebird populations have decreased by 70 percent since 1973.
Audubon's conservation programs include Conservation Forage, Conservation Ranching Initiative, Conservation and Agricultural Land Easements, the Priairie Management Toolbox – all engaging in partnerships with private landowners, state and federal agencies, local stakeholders, and other conservation groups.
The Platte River Initiative is unique in both scope and scale. Over a large, regionally significant watershed, the Initiative will work to put in place a long-term, whole ecosystem approach to natural resource conservation.
In North and South Dakota we lead a variety of nature-based programs and events focused on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats while emphasizing responsible stewardship of natural areas, both rural and urban.
